Risk Scores for Worker Safety
Challenge
Everyone wants to reduce workplace accidents: workers, companies, and the government.
Since accidents are not common, this leads to gross class imbalance between accident and non-accident data. However, the imbalance is opposite to normal expectations. Accident reporting is federally mandated, but companies are not required to share normal non-accident data. We had all the accident reports, but no non-accident data.
Solution
First, since absolutely no non-accident data was available, we helped the client construct a process to generate synthetic datasets to use as input for machine learning training until real datasets become available.

Then we developed machine learning models to compute accident risk scores for each worker in the work environment.
We also developed explanatory models (XAI models) to help companies understand the generated risk scores. We developed both population (global) explanations and individual worker (instance) explanation models. The goal was to build a development pipeline to train machine learning models that correctly predict the synthetic datasets. Once real datasets are available, the pipeline will be rerun to build the final models.

FedRAMP Compliance
Challenge
We helped a client that needed FedRAMP compliant Network architecture in order to attain DoD accredited status, the client had previously spent 12 months recruiting for a "FedRAMP Principal Compliance Architect" as an FTE position, unsuccessfully, then opened it up for contract. There were no successful candidates in their salary range, with the right expertise and cultural fit to fill this unique resource need. Time was ticking.
Their options were: keep waiting until they fill the FTE role with right culture fit expert candidate, Get more budget to pay for expert, work with a 3rd party firm at an expensive hourly rate but with risk.
Solution
The solution was there all along, but they needed to think differently. There was an Independent FedRAMP consultant, with 23 succcessful engagements, but wasn't available for FTE employment due to personal situation, and was lacking the executive presentation experience needed.

We also had an Executive with industry expertise and solid executive presentation skills that would be a nice culture fit. Our Fractionation solution, use 10 hour incremement from the FedRAMP Consultant plus 3 hour increments from the Industry Executive, working together, they achieved the goal 4 months early and under budget.

SaaS Offering GTM
Challenge
An NLP AI startup I got to know well was struggling with their operating cost model. They were in need of someone with deep and broad technical expertise, as well as business knowledge to help them define a new path to market with a revised offering.
Solution
Our AI/NLP Consultant spent time with the three founders of this business to understand how they viewed their current offering from a market fit perspective. He also went super deep with them on why they built the current offering the way they did.

After a couple of weeks, he had enough knowledge and detail to propose that they re-factor their offering, which was based on leveraging Virtual Machines, to leverage serverless technology, shift to a Cloud based SaaS first model, improve the UX, and develop a marketing plan that supported the new offering model.

The SaaS offering combined with adjusted marketing has enabled them to acquire customers at a higher rate which is providing them more revenue to continue to improve their offering.
